This area requires a lot of sensitivity and a long education in the medical career. In medical technology, surgery is also called the supreme discipline in medicine. Introduced by Kurt Semm in gynecology in 1967, minimally invasive surgery became established in the 1990s. The patients are operated on with endoscopes that are inserted through stab incisions.
According to the training regulations of 2008, surgery in Germany includes the following specialist areas: general surgery, vascular surgery, cardiac surgery, pediatric surgery, orthopedics and trauma surgery, plastic and aesthetic surgery, thoracic surgery, visceral surgery.
