KLS Martin Group invests in the most modern fiber optic connection between locations in Tuttlingen and Mühlheim

A direct and fast data connection, via which our teams can work across locations, communicate and use systems such as SAP without delay - that is our claim in daily cooperation and also an important part of the location merger as part of the KLS ONE project. To this end, we invested in the most modern fiber optic infrastructure at an early stage.

The project, which was started together with the broadband initiative Tuttlingen (BIT) and NetCom BW, is now bearing its first fruits. With #DarkFiber we are now sending 10 Gbit of data per second back and forth between our two company locations in Tuttlingen and Mühlheim - with the potential to be able to use even faster data connections in the future. To this end, we will successively renew the other peripheral devices and thus bring them up to the latest technical standard in order to be able to use the full speed of the line.

In addition to making work easier, the supposedly unspectacular cable also has other great advantages. With the new fiber optic technology, we will be able to shut down two of our four data centers at our sites in the future, thus saving electricity and at the same time increasing the security of the systems, particularly in the event of failure scenarios. Before the two locations were connected via fiber optics, we operated several data centers at each location in order to have a redundant system available in the event of a failure. Thanks to the fast, real-time connection, if one data center fails, another location can take over and provide the services required for business operations.
